Happy Anniversary, Zonta Club Charlevoix!
In May 2019, Zonta Club Charlevoix members celebrated the 30thanniversary of their Club’s founding with a celebratory dinner attended by members and Joy Smith, Governor of Zonta International District 15. Zonta Charlevoix is an active presence in the Charlevoix community, working to advocate, promote and enhance the status of women on a local level as well as internationally. Zonta Charlevoix also supports leadership and educational endeavors for women and provides financial support for Zonta International projects in conjunction with the United Nations Committees, seeking to help improve the lives of women worldwide. Zonta Charlevoix has awarded more than $20,000 in local scholarships to young women. It has worked in partnership with Charlevoix Area Hospital, the Women’s Resource Center, the Charlevoix Area Library, the Charlevoix Center for the Arts, Camp Hayo Went Ha, and the Charlevoix Cinema, on events and projects supporting literacy, empowerment and self-esteem for women and for girls in K-12thgrades, breast cancer and other women’s health issues, and numerous other projects. Perhaps most importantly, Zonta and its members have been strong advocates for the prevention of violence against women and human trafficking, and for the rights of young women and children locally, nationally and internationally. Zonta’s goal is to eliminate all forms of discrimination and harmful practices against not only women and children, but against everyone. Women’s rights are human rights.
